Bankruptcies Rise in Ventura County

The Ventura County Star had a good article today on the rising tide of bankruptcies in Ventura County.

More than 5,000 new bankruptcy cases were filed by Ventura County residents in 2010, up 27.7 percent from the previous year, according to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles.
The bulk of the filings (4,361) were basic liquidation, or Chapter 7 cases. The remainder were reorganizations under Chapter 13 (861) and Chapter 11 (37). The filing rate in the Ventura County region remains well above the national rate.
